Description

The CHC50125 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care is a highly sought after qualification within the childcare industry.

Upon completion, graduates will have the skills and knowledge to become a lead educator in the delivery of early childhood education programs for children in centre based and family day care. This qualification will also develop student’s ability to lead and mentor other staff in their early childhood education careers. The Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care includes some management competencies designed to equip graduates with the knowledge to meet the daily challenges of working within the Early Childhood industry.

Practical Placement

To achieve this qualification, the individual must have completed a total of least 280 hours of work in a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency. The total number of hours may be applied collectively across all units of competency that include the requirement for workplace hours.

Entry Requirements

Entry to this qualification is open to individuals who hold:

  • CHC30125 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care (or its equivalent successor) OR
  • CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care

Alternatively, individuals may hold:

  • An Australian diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care OR
  • An Australian diploma or certificate III in Children’s Services

AND

  • Demonstrate at least 12 months of cumulative employment (full-time equivalent) within the last 5 years in a regulated education and care service in Australia, supported by verifiable evidence. OR
  • Hold the CHCSS00147 Entry into Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.

Career Boost Eligibility for General Training Pathways

To access a subsidised training place under Career Boost, a student must meet the following criteria:

  • aged 15 years or older;
  • not be a school student;
  • permanently reside in Queensland;
  • be an Australian citizen, or Australian permanent resident (includes humanitarian entrant), or a temporary resident with the right visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency, or a New Zealand citizen;
  • not be enrolled in another qualification, even if it is on hold or deferred, whether funded by DTET or not (foundation skills qualifications do not count).
    Note: This eligibility requirement does not apply to individuals seeking to enrol in a skill set;
  • not already have a certificate IV or higher qualification (including tertiary qualification) completed within the last 10 years (qualifications completed as a school student and foundation skills qualifications do not count).

Co-Contribution Fees - General Training Pathways

This fee can be paid by an employer, a family member, a friend, or another organisation or a third party unrelated to the RTO but cannot be paid or waived by the RTO (whether directly or indirectly), unless approved in writing by the Department. The fee amount represents the total cost to the student, including any enrolment charges (e.g. ID card fees), tuition, services and materials fees, and all other mandatory costs related to delivering training, assessment, and awarding the Qualification. This also includes costs such as criminal history checks, where required for Vocational placement or employment in certain occupations.

Payment of fees is usually required at the time of enrolment or before the course start date.

Co-Contribution Fees - Apprenticeship/Traineeship

A co-contribution fee of $1.60 per nominal hour applies to each unit of competency and is calculated at the commencement of each unit. Payment of fees is usually required at the time of enrolment or before the course start date.

Free Apprenticeships and Traineeships for Under 25s

Eligible apprentices and trainees under 25 years of age are not required to pay apprenticeship or traineeship co-contribution fees. These fees are covered by the Queensland Government under the Free Apprenticeships for Under 25s initiative.

In addition to meeting Career Boost eligibility requirements, you must:

  • Be aged under 25 at the point of enrolment
  • Be currently employed in Queensland as an apprentice or trainee under a registered training contract.

If an apprentice or trainee meets any of the following eligibility criteria, a reduced fee of 40% of the standard charge will apply:

  • Under 17 years of age at the end of February in the year training is provided and not attending school or has not completed Year 12
  • Holds a Health Care Card, Veteran Card, or Pensioner Concession Card, or is the partner or dependent of a cardholder
  • Identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
